Vera Wang

Vera Wang (b. 1949) was born in New York City to Chinese immigrant parents. She earned a degree in art history from Sarah Lawrence College. Wang began figure skating at age eight and when she failed to make the US Olympics team, she decided to enter the fashion industry. In 1990, she opened her own design salon in New York. Wang is known best for her bridal gowns and evening wear. She was inducted into the US Figure Skating Hall of Fame for her contribution to the sport as a costume designer.
