Michelle Sung Wie (b. 1989) was born in Honolulu as the only child of Korean immigrant parents. She earned a BA in communications from Stanford University. Her mother was a former South Korean women’s amateur golf champion. At age ten, Wie became the youngest player to qualify for the United States Golf Association amateur championship and before she was sixteen, she turned professional. In 2014, Wie won her first major in the US Women’s Open.
