Service: Dan was rejected by the Army when he was eighteen years old because of his race. He volunteered again and was assigned to the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. Dan wanted to be a surgeon but lost his right arm in battle.
Post-War: Daniel used the GI Bill to pursue a law degree to become a lawyer. He was the first Japanese American to serve in the House of Representatives and US Senate, both times representing Hawaiʻi. He served in multiple Senate committees and was among the most powerful statesmen in America.
