Chien-Shiung Wu

Physicist

Chien-Shiung Wu (1912-1997) was born in China. She came to the United States as a graduate student and enrolled in University of California, Berkeley where she earned her PhD. Wu is best known for the Wu experiment that contradicted the law of conservation of parity. This earned her the inaugural Wolf Prize in Physics in 1978. She is known as the “First Lady of Physics” and the “Queen of Nuclear Research.”
