Bryan Clay

Olympian Decathalon

Bryan Clay (b.1980) was born to an African American father and a Japanese immigrant mother. He was raised by his mother in Palolo Valley, Hawai'i. As a child, he played around and fought a lot with other children and the teacher. His mother tried to help by getting him involved in sports. She gave him the choice of either running or swimming. Since Clay was a fast runner, he chose running and competed in track and field in high school. Clay participated in the men's decathlon and won silver at the 2004 Olympics in Athens and gold at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
