Mindy Kaling

Vera Mindy Chokalingam (b. 1979) is known professionally as Mindy Kaling. Her parents are Hindus from India and immigrated to the United States in 1979. Kaling graduated with a baccalaureate degree in playwriting from Dartmouth University. In 2004, she was the only woman on a staff of eight when she joined the television show, The Office, as a writer-performer. She is the creator and star of The Mindy Project and has authored two books. In 2013, she was one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World.
